A practice built around staying on the file
NovaLex opened in Bengaluru in 2011 with two advocates and a simple rule: the person who takes your first meeting stays responsible for your matter.
How it started
Most clients arrive having already been passed around. We built the firm to be the opposite of that.
The two advocates who founded NovaLex had both worked in larger practices where a client would meet a partner once and then deal with whoever happened to be free. The work was competent. The experience was not.
So the firm was kept deliberately small. Each advocate carries fewer matters than they could, and in exchange the client gets someone who has actually read the file. Fifteen years later that is still the constraint we plan around, and it is the reason we occasionally decline work.
Today the practice covers ten areas in house across offices in Bengaluru and Gurugram, with counsel in Mumbai, and appears before courts and tribunals from the district level to the Supreme Court.

Fifteen years, briefly
2011
The firm opens
NovaLex begins in Bengaluru as a two advocate corporate and disputes practice.
2014
Property practice added
Title diligence and real estate work becomes a distinct practice group.
2017
Delhi NCR office
An associated office opens in Gurugram to cover northern matters and tribunal work.
2020
Remote practice
Consultations, filings, and hearings move online, and the non resident practice grows sharply.
2023
Arbitration group
A dedicated arbitration group is formed covering clause drafting through enforcement.
2026
Ten practice areas
The firm now covers ten practice areas in house across three locations.

Matters are not passed down to whoever is free. The person who takes your first meeting stays responsible for the file, and you have their direct line.
The position in writing, in plain language
After the first consultation you receive a written note setting out where you stand, the options open to you, and what each one costs in time and money.
Fees agreed before work starts
An engagement letter states the basis of charging and what is included. There are no invoices for time you did not know was being spent.
Replies within one working day
Every message gets a response within a working day, even if the answer is that we are still looking into it. Urgent criminal matters are taken outside office hours.
A realistic view, including when to stop
Where a claim is weak or the cost outweighs what is at stake, we say so at the outset. Advising against litigation is part of the job.
Built for clients abroad
Video consultations scheduled to your time zone, documents explained before you sign, and powers of attorney arranged so routine steps do not require travel.
